The purpose of this Web site is to provide
information in Chinese about educational opportunities - secondary
school, English language school, university - in the United Kingdom.
The Chinese cultural tradition emphasises educational achievement and hence families are willing to invest heavily in this area. A quarter of the world's population communicates in Chinese - they will be able to read these Web pages. Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore have long been important markets for UK education. In China today there is now also sufficient wealth and prosperity in certain sectors as a result of economic reforms for those who wish to avail themselves of education in the UK to do so.
Education in the UK and awards gained here are still held in high regard and are therefore highly desirable. But Chinese still have Confucian-based family structures in which the parents (who also control the wealth) will want to investigate and make decisions about education in the UK. Most of these parents know little English and would prefer to read information for themselves in Chinese and hence there is no English version of site. There is also an inherent mistrust of official information and agents for fear of possibility being mislead with biased information. For this reason, this is an independent site with no affiliations to any goverment body, association, universities, schools or agents. This made clear in the Chinese text. Our aim is to be a trusted source of information. The students themselves, even though they may know sufficient English, will feel more confident about coming to UK if they can read the information in Chinese.
